EmpiricalHR - data-driven employee decisions - Issue #141
I spent much of last week teaching text analysis at the excellent People Analytics World. I thoroughly enjoyed the experience and started some excellent conversations. I am exploring options to share this content, or a slightly adjusted version, in the near future and will update you when I have dates etc arranged.
The big story last week was the publishing of the EU’s proposals on regulation of AI. It is obviously going to have a major impact on People Analytics for two reasons:
1) The definition of ‘AI’ that they’ve used is relatively broad and would encompass many statistical techniques
2) Areas that we’re likely to be working in have been defined as high-risk and therefore will be subjected to tighter regulation.
It’s too early for me to proclaim any sort of judgement on the regulations. Certainly I support the aims of this, and I think any ethical People Analytics team would share that view.
I suspect that like GDPR it will help set the pace globally, especially for firms with global workforces.
This is one that I’ll likely cover as it develops.
